The Glen Eldridge Club, Inc. was established in 1896 on the east shore of Seneca Lake at Burdett, New York: eleven cottages, a pavilion, a shared dock, and the glen and creek that give the point its name.
Markers Along the Way
- 1896The Club is established.
- 1935Flood takes the cottage beside the creek where no seawall stood.
- 1972Major flood. In its aftermath the Club builds the catch basin drainage system behind the lower cottages.
- 1973The main dock is built. It serves for roughly four decades before boards need replacing.
- Smelt eraA public dispute over smelt fishing leads to legal work by Ed Hoffman establishing that the glen and the creek belong to the Club, not the state.
- 2006–07The Club studies benthic barriers and mechanical cutters to control invasive lake weeds, with input from SLPWA and neighboring lakes.
- Recent yearsHector water supply secured. Creek wall reinforced through a member financing program. Swale regraded. Main dock replacement planned for 2026–27.
